Ed Searles
Charles Edward Searles, age 65, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home in Old Fort, Tennessee. He was born June 17, 1943 in Overton, Nevada to Charles Edward Searles and Dorothy Perkins. On October 24, 1987 he married Mary Ruth Elder in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded in death on September 15, 2004.
Ed grew up in Overton. As a young man he learned to work hard. Mac McCormick taught him to operate equipment and Bennie Binion of Binion's Horseshoe Hotel and Casino taught him the Casino Business. He also loved the rodeo and horse business, working for Swanee Kirby. He worked in many different jobs in construction, casinos and rodeo over the years. He lived in Overton, Moapa, Phoenix, AZ and Sandy Valley, Nevada. He and Mary moved to Georgia to be close to Mary's family and recently to Tennessee.
Survivors include two daughters and one son: Pamela Brody (Johnny Brock) of Cleveland, TN; Ginger Searles Phillips of Las Vegas, NV; Allan (Melissa) Searles of Heflin, AL; two step sons: Jim (Sherri) Elder of Canada; Jay Elder of Covington, GA; four grandsons; his mother, Dorothy Hortt of Logandale, NV; two brothers and four sisters: LaRea Searles of Overton, NV; Tom Searles of Moapa, NV; Verna Kay Ruthlidge of CA; Barbara (Malcolm) Lewis of Overton, NV; Billie (Clifford) Peterson of Logandale, NV; Rob (Robin) Hortt of Alamo, NV and his fiancAC., Sylvia Mullins of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his step father, Bob Hortt, and one sister, Charlene Simmons.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Moapa LDS Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Warm Springs Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
