Chalmer George Fluharty, passed away April 19, 2020 peacefully in his home in Overton, Clark County, Nevada at the age of 80. He was born to Gail Fluharty and Jesse Vivia Brautigam in Lakemore , Summitt County Ohio, on March 25 1940. He was the 8th of 11 children.
He attended Hower Vocational High School in Akron, OH and graduated as a machinist. He married Marilyn Gaines on October 14, 1960 in Perryton, TX. They are the parents of two daughters, Susan & Kristi.
They moved to Las Vegas for employment where he was hired as an apprentice for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and was named the Outstanding Student Apprentice in 1964. He worked as a Journeyman & Formeman during his career. As a family they enjoyed, camping, hiking, road trips and playing “May I”, a Fluharty tradition.
His family was baptized March 15, 1972 in Las Vegas, NV in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their family was sealed for time and all eternity in the St, George Temple on May 26, 1973. He was an active member and served in numerous callings which included several leadership positions. His favorite calling was in the Boys Scouts of America where the boys loved being in the monkey patrol, going places in the monkey mover and having their equipment transported in the banana hauler. He helped many young men earn the rank of Eagle. Because of his service he earned the highest Scouting award, the Silver Beaver.
He was an excellent dutch oven chef, loved leather working, and enjoyed decorating and spooking the children on Halloween.
After his retirement at age 59, they traveled around the country for 11 years doing genealogy/family history work. During that time, he was diagnosed with a rare muscular disorder Inclusion Body Myositis.
He is survived by his spouse of almost 60 years, Marilyn (Gaines) who resides in Overton, NV.
Daughters Susan (Lindsey) Rose of Overton, NV & Kristi (Norman) Johnson of South Weber, UT. Grandchildren Landon (Heather) Rose of Soda Springs, Id., Breanna (Kyler) Freeman of Pasco, WA, Norman (Rachele) Johnson of South Jordan, UT, Ryan (Janelle) Johnson of South Weber, & Lacey Johnson of South Weber. Great grandchildren, Alissa Pink & Logan Rose of Soda Springs, ID, Paxton & Bexley Freeman of Pasco, WA, Ryan II and Isen Johnson of South Weber, UT & Jude Johnson of South UT.
He is also survived by one brother & two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings.
All services are private due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. There will be viewing services at the Pine View Mortuary at 566 North Mall Drive, St. George, UT on Saturday, April 25, 2020 11:30-12:30 MST. Graveside services will be held after at the Washington City Cemetery at 300 Park View Dr. Washington, UT on Saturday, 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. MST.
