Bryant Alfred Solomon

November 27, 1934 — December 21, 2015

Bryant Alfred Solomon, beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend, passed away, Dec. 21, 2015, from complications due to pneumonia, after a six month battle with cancer. He was a simple and quiet man who lived life to the fullest and whose helpful hands and ready smile lifted countless individuals. Bryant was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 27, 1934 to Melvin Solomon and Everean Nielsen. He was the sixth of eight children and dearly loved his older brother and their six sisters. While playing basketball for Dixie College he met his little scandinavian sweetheart, Joyce Hansen of St. George, Utah. They were married in the St. George LDS Temple July 29, 1955. They lived in Logan, Utah; Pima, Ariz. and Las Vegas before settling down in Boulder City to raise their three sons and one daughter. After their children were grown, Bryant and Joyce built a home in Overton, Nevada, where they spent many joyful years.

Bryant loved the active and outdoor life, and was most happy when he was with family and friends water-skiing, camping, dutch oven cooking, hiking, rock-rolling, wood-gathering, and taking vacations to where the weather was going to be bad. He was a marvelous athlete, loving basketball, golf, tennis and most other sports. He was a teacher and a coach by profession, and many students remember his kind (and occasionally stern) tutelage. He was always busy building, fixing and making things for his wife, family and friends. His hand-made license-plate dustpans, rope-vases, and wooden signs grace numerous shelves around this corner of the world. His trusty harmonica played at campfires, reunions, caroling, churches and gravesides.

He was devoted to God and his country. He served in many callings in the LDS church and is fondly remembered for his years as Bishop of the Boulder City 2nd Ward and his homemade ice cream at Christmas time. He and Joyce served a mission to the Navajos, and his door was ever open to help those in need. He is the patriarch of the Solomon Family, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren look up to his example and will hold him in eternal regard and love forever.

Bryant was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings. He is survived by his three sons, Starr of Boulder City, Stann (Shirley) of New Harmony, Utah, and Rohn (Daphne) of Cedar City; daughter Rachel (Craig) Gallegos of Las Vegas; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susie and Patsy; and his brother Ray. He joins his wife and one great grandson in the hereafter, where we have no doubt that he and our mother will continue to be an inspiration to their family on Earth and in Heaven.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hinckley Chapel, 1505 Hinckley Ave, Logandale. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. prior at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Ivins City Cemetery, Ivins, Utah.Friends and family are invited to sign our online guestbook at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
