Betty Chaney

Elizabeth (Betty) Chaney, 62 passed away on Thursday, January 15 at home in Mesquite, NV. She was born on August 16, 1952 in Washington, DC to Robert Matthews and Elizabeth Milby. She was married to Timothy (Turk) Chaney on August 24, 1974 in Washington, DC.

Betty was raised in Bethesda, MD where she attended Walt Whitman H.S. and then attended VA Tech, where she met Turk. She studied Animal Science and worked in research at George Washington Univ. for seven years until she wanted/needed to be a stay at home Mom. She and Turk lived in Northern VA, Sparta, New Jersey, Pleasanton, CA and finally Mesquite, NV. She loved boating, her children's sports, long walks and meeting and talking to new people. Though a very private person, Betty was extremely kind and outgoing, always wearing a smile. She will always be remembered for how deeply and unconditionally she loved her family, how much she loved to laugh and how she was adored by her grandchildren. She is very deeply missed.

Betty is survived by husband Turk, daughter and son-in-law Shilo and Jason Smith, two grandchildren (Elijah and Elsa), son Adam, daughter Melissa, and sisters Becky Flitcroft and Bonnie Peterson. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Matthews, mother Elizabeth Matthews and brother Robert Matthews, Jr.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday Jan. 31 at Mesquite Lutheran Church, 450 Turtleback Rd., Mesquite, NV. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider donations to Mesquite Lutheran Pre-school and Childcare, 450 Turtleback Road, Mesquite, NV 89027.
