Bernice Mary Clark

Bernice M. Clark, 95, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Mesquite, NV. She was born February 3, 1920 in Burley, ID to Carl Moon and Mary Koyle.

Bernice spent most of her childhood between Utah and Idaho. She graduated from High School in Hyrum, UT. She then married Farris Maughan, and they had two children together, Patricia and Gene. In the winter of 1942, she was divorced from Farris and Bernice moved to Portland, OR to work in the time department of Oregon Shipyards during WW2. While working at the shipyards, Bernice met Carl Clark and they later married. Carl had three children; Carma, Ranae, and Wayne. Carl and Bernice moved to Gresham where they had a daughter Debra (Clark) Bearden. Later, Bernice and Carl were divorced, and Bernice moved to Damascus, OR, and then after two years, later moved to Nehalem, OR. After her daughter Debra passed away, Bernice moved to Beaver Dam, AZ to be near her son Gene Maughan. Over the course of her life, Bernice worked a variety of jobs. After working in the shipyards, she then worked in the offices for United Truck Lines. After working for the Transamerica Title for several years, two friends approached Bernice and the three became business partners and started Oregon Trail Savings and Loan. Bernice acted as Vice president over the loan closing department. Bernice also held many community positions, being the first women elected to the Gresham Chamber of Commerce Board. She was also a member of the Realityettes in Portland, OR, and also took part with the group known as Mortgage Women of Portland.

Bernice is survived by her son, Gene Maughan; two grandchildren, Thaddeus McCrory and Dennis Dechanne; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Olsen and Vera Badger and other siblings, Karla Williams, Earl, Lance, Leroy and Jerald Moon.

Bernice is preceded in death by two daughters; Patricia DeChenne and Debra Clark Bearden.
