Benjamin Robert Thornton, age 83, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his home in Overton, Nevada. He was born May 25, 1929 in Chloride, Arizona to Benjamin Franklin and Jennie Ivy Henton Thornton. On February 12, 1951 he married Verna Rae Bagshaw in Las Vegas, Nevada. She preceded him in death on July 5, 1999. Ben grew up in Chloride, he joined the Navy as a corpsman, and served during the Korean War. He lived in Overton, Nevada until 1960 when he moved his young family to Las Vegas. He worked 30 years as a trucking supervisor for Reynolds Electric. When he retired he lived in Moapa for a short time before moving to Parowan, UT in 1997, finally returning to Overton in 2012. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and he was a licensed pilot and loved flying. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and tall tales. Survivors include one son and two daughters: Cliff (Tracey) of Overton; Claire Smith of Las Vegas; Brenda (Gary) Jaskol of Overton; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Overton LDS Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery.
