Beatriz Acosta, 89, passed away on September 4, 2020 in Overton, NV. Beatriz was born on July 29, 1931 in Terlingua, TX to Jesus Ramirez and Josefina Pizarro. Beatriz was raised on the Texas/Mexico border, living with family members on both sides. She grew very close to her father, who worked as a rancher for many years in the Big Bend National Park area. She spent much of her youth working hard and learning how to care for animals. On many occasions, she would help her father birth the many animals on the farm, and because of their experience, the local doctor trained them to assist him as midwives. At that time, most children were educated by traveling teachers who would teach her the basics, and they would go back to work on the farm. In 1949, she married Pilar Dominguez, and they had seven children together. They moved around a lot, living on a cattle ranch in West Texas. They later began to work as migrant workers, following the harvest around the southwest states.
In 1970, they first entered Moapa Valley. Her children began to settle and marry into the valley, so she and Pilar began to settle down as well. In 1973, Pilar passed away. She met Presciliano Acosta, and was married shortly after in 1975. Beatriz loved staying busy, and worked hard to care for her family, taking care of her home and of Presciliano. As her father got older, She brought him into her home, and cared for him until his passing in 1988. She loved to crochet, sew, cook and garden. Her greatest joy was playing with her grandchildren and watching them grow up. Beatriz was a devout Catholic.
Beatriz is survived by her husband, Presciliano Acosta; her children, Felix (Tammy) Dominguez, Ricardo “Rico” (Martha) Dominguez, Conrado (Maria) Dominguez, Emelia (Jesus) Ramos, Joel (Lorena) Dominguez, Eloy Dominguez, and Ramon Dominguez; her thirty-four grandchildren; her forty-four great-grandchildren; her seven great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Juanita Dominguez and Bevo Moreno, and a large extended family and lots of loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pilar Dominguez, her grandson, Pilar Dominguez, and her parents, Jesus Ramirez and Josefina Pizarro.
