Arthur Hugh Mitchell

Arthur Hugh Mitchell age 85 passed peacefully to begin his eternal life on Sunday morning; October 16, 2016 in Mesquite, Nevada.

Art was born October 12, 1931 in Colorado to Odes Hugh Mitchell and Elsie Mae Hitchcock Mitchell. Art married Ida M. Rydberg on December 16, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Arvada, Colorado.

Art was raised in Calhan, Colorado where he graduated from Calhan High School in 1949. He moved to Denver where he began working at the Hugh M Woods Hardware and Lumber Company. In March 1950 he was called to active duty until he received an honorable discharge after 2 years. Art returned to Hugh M Woods where he was promoted to manager. Through the years he helped plan and build stores in several locations as president of the company. When Hugh M Woods was sold to Payless Cashways, Art remained as district manager until he retired at age 56.

Art purchased a ranch in Calhan, CO where he partnered with his brother Tom Mitchell for many years in the cattle business. After selling his ranch, Art then moved to a home he had built in Calhan. On a cold winter day in Colorado, Art decided to move to Mesquite, Nevada

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Odes and Elsie Mitchell, an infant son John, son Arthur Jr. and sister Joyce Trojanovich.

Art is survived by his wife of 64 years Ida Mitchell, of Mesquite NV; daughter Linda Squire of Mesquite NV; son Bill Mitchell of Arvada CO; daughter Barbara Field of Mesquite NV; 5 grand children, 3 great grand children; and 3 brothers, Tommy, Gary, Terry and 2 sisters, Dixie, and Marla.
