Antonia Avila
Maria Antonia Huerta Avila, died Monday, May 13, 2024 in West Covina, California. She was born August 1, 1941 in Tuxtuac, Mexico to Salvador Huerta and Maria Concepcion Romo. On January 17, 1958 she married Domingo Avila in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico. They had four children and were later divorced.
Antonia grew up in Tuxtuac and in Aguas Caliente, Mexico. As a young seventeen year old bride, she relocated to Moapa, Nevada. There she raised four children while working in the restaurant business. Her first job was with Mom’s Café in Overton. She later worked at Arrowhead Station and later for the Hester’s at Glendale Café. She then spent many years working in Mesquite at the Peppermill and Virgin River. She was a private person who enjoyed quiet moments. She found solitude fishing and camping at Lake Mead, and several areas of Utah and California. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and arts and crafts. In 2005 she started living between California and Nevada to spend time near all of her family. She looked forward to family holidays and events, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son and three daughters: Marciana (Rudy) Rodriguez of Las Vegas, NV; Molly (Alejandro) Morales of West Covina, CA; Domingo of Moapa, NV; Caroline (David) Prater of Las Vegas; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and siblings, Irene, Sid, Margarita, Marina, Nalo and Jaime.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Overton, NV. Visitation and Rosary will be one hour prior at the church.
