Ann Weidel, age 94, while surrounded by loving family went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nevada. She was born January 7, 1915 in Tampico, Illinois to Andrew Kamiel and Mary Della DeMay Staelens. On January 8, 1934 she married John Chauncey Thomson at St. Mary's Church in Tampico, Illinois. He passed away on August 17, 1953. On January 17, 1959 she married Edward Zeke Weidel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1989.
Ann grew up in Illinois. She and her husband with their three children moved to Gardena, California. After her husband's death she was transferred to the Lancaster/Palmdale area of California by her employer, Northrup Aviation. She moved back to Illinois to care for her aging parents after her children were grown. She married "Zeke" and raised his two daughters. In later years Ann worked until retirement as an aide for the mentally challenged at the Dixon Developmental Center. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Dixon and also a member of the Women of the Moose. After she retired, she started wintering in Overton, Nevada with her daughter, Betty. Her hobbies include gardening and bowling. She excelled at both. She loved to eat chicken wings and popcorn while watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Recently she enjoyed some new adventures including cruises with her family, riding in hot air balloons and watching horse jumping competitions.
She is deeply loved and was a great influence on all who were blessed to know her.
Survivors include two daughters: Betty Hedger of Logandale, NV; Mary Lou (Donald) Hose of Dixon, IL; two step daughters: Karen (Terry) O'Malley of Sterling, IL; Marcia (Ray) Anderson of Littleton, CO; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one brother, Hubert (Linda) Staelens of Orlando, Fl and one sister, Betty Puckett of Sterling, IL. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one son, and two step sons.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale, Nevada. Funeral services and Interment will be in Tampico, Illinois on Wednesday, July 2, 2009. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
