Alva Bailey Alva Bailey, age 78, passed away in her home in Mesquite, NV on Wednesday May 28, 2008. She was born July 31, 1929 in West Enfield, Maine, the daughter of Walter Hanson and Mona (McPhee) Hanson.

She graduated from Howland High School in 1946 and attended Northeastern Business College in Portland, Maine. She was widowed when her husband Donald Nault was lost at sea aboard the U.S.S. Thresher on April 10, 1963, his 36th birthday. He also left three small children. In 1966 she married James Bailey, a retired submariner, and lived in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for many years. A stepson, Michael, died in May 1968 aboard the U.S.S. Scorpion. After her husband James retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the couple traveled extensively, settling in St. Anthony, Idaho and Mesquite, Nevada. She is survived by her daughters Dena Nault of Houston Texas, Dawn Nault Bort of Thayne, Wyoming; son Donald Nault of Mesquite, Nevada; sister Rosemarie Zita; and several grand children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband James, and in 1987 by her brother Eugene Hanson.

She will be cremated and joined with her husbands ashes and buried at sea. According to her wishes, services will be private.
