Alfred Duane Frehner

August 8, 1953 — December 4, 2015

Alfred Duane Frehner, age 62, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2015 at his home in Mesquite, Nevada where his family lovingly cared for him as he bravely faced the challenges of ALS.

Alf was born in St. George, Utah on August 8, 1953—the ninth child of Fenton and Mary Leavitt Frehner. Two additional siblings were born later - giving him ten brothers and sisters to happily grow up with in Mesquite. He was a hard worker and excelled in athletics.

Alf was a graduate of Virgin Valley High School and attended Dixie Junior College; Southern Utah State College; Brigham Young University; and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He served a mission to Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished that experience.

On April 29, 1977 Alfred and Susan Diane Richins were married in the St. George Temple – he was always happiest with her by his side. Alf and Suzi joyfully started their family together and being a dad was his greatest honor. He treasured family—both his ancestors and his posterity. Each one of seventeen grandchildren knew they were loved by Grandpa.

He lived, taught school, and coached high school athletics in Monroe, Utah and Mesquite. He also taught in Las Vegas, NV. He continually nurtured his strong testimony as he served in various callings, including beloved home teacher and Bishop. Alf was a thoughtful, kind person. He liked to tease but he loved people.

Survivors include his dearly-loved wife, Suzi of Mesquite; two sons and four daughters: Destiny (JJ) Tanner of Hurricane, UT; Corby (Ammie) Frehner of Las Vegas, NV; Lindsey (John) James of Santaquin, UT; Ashley (Aaron) Bunker of Mesquite, NV; Melanie Wright of Salt Lake City, UT; and Anthony "Tony" (Lisa) Frehner of Provo, UT; seventeen grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mesquite Stake Center. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. and again Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. both at the Stake Center. Interment will follow in the Mesquite City Cemetery.
