Alfonso Marquez Bautista, Jr., age 71, died Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Mesquite, Nevada. He was born on August 9, 1950 in Manila, Philippines to Alfonso Escueta Bautista, Sr. And Teresa Marquez Bautista. He was the 3rd of six children: Guia Cifra, Manuel (deceased), Leandro, Imelda Isley and Napoleon. He is survived by two sons: Lawrence (Mary Jane) and their children, Tirxia, Jeje and Jaja; son, Allah Troy (Hannah) and their daughter, Cerena; his companion, Leonida Salvador and her children: Apple (Arnold) Milan and their son Alec; Dan Bryan Villanueva; Rizza (Brent) Hopkins and cousins and relatives all over the world.
Alfonso grew up as a happy child with an attitude, but he a was loving and thoughtful person. He had a great sense of humor and was friendly with everyone in our neighborhood, no matter their influence. He was known by his nickname, Boy Pula because he always wore something with a touch of red. Most of all, he was very protective of the young girls in the family, scaring away any boys that would get too close. (He believed he was the “Tough Guy”).
Before migrating to the United States, he worked as an auto mechanic with Mercedes Benz, Philippines and as a contract worker in Saudi Arabia. For 29 years, he resided in West Covina, CA, San Francisco, Chicago and New York before settling into Mesquite, Nevada.
He was very close to Leonida, through thick and thin for 29 years. He always managed to make her and their friends laugh and enjoy his company. He was known as “Fonzy” to his close friends. His favorite line was “How is Everyone?!” Whether you replied or not as long as he greeted with no expectation. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He had admirable and willing spirit to help out - as a carpenter, auto mechanic, gardner, farmer, caretaker, tailor or whatever was needed. He loved to share the “Fruits” of his labor from his garden, like his favorite, Bahay Kubo vegetables. It truly brought him joy to share. We will truly miss him, however we have hope of seeing him again as Jehovah God promised in John 5:28,29: do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, and those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of Judgement. Our family appreciates all the love, support and encouragement from all of you.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 6, 2021 from 3 - 4 p.m. at the Virgin Valley Mortuary.
