Afton Albrechtsen

December 1, 1926 — July 9, 2013

Our loving, kind, gentle giant husband and father, Rufus Afton Albrechtsen, age 86, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born December 1, 1926 in Emery, Utah to Rufus Casper and Alice Holt Albrechtsen. On August 22, 1947 he was sealed to Merle Brown in the Salt Lake Temple. Afton was raised in Emery County. He served as a medic in the Navy, stationed in Hawaii during WWII. He and Merle met in Price, Utah and that was the start of their 66 years of marriage. They raised their family in Sandy, Utah where he worked as a master machinist for Chicago Bridge and Iron, and Nickerson Pump Company. In 1991 Afton retired and they moved to Overton. He enjoyed volunteering to drive the Senior Citizen Bus for many years in Overton. Afton was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Merle were also members of the 52 Dance Club (a group of friends who met and danced in the basement of a member), The Salt Lake and Retreads Motorcycle Clubs. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and traveling. He loved to ride his Harley, making many cross country trips. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of family. Survivors include his wife, Merle of Overton; two daughters and one son; MaryLee (Ed) Flagler of St. George, UT; Cody (Randi) of McCall, ID; Wendy (Jody) Larsen of Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one sister, Dora Lee Phillips of Sandy, UT and one brother, Ben (Nancy) Albrechtsen of N. Ogden, UT. He was preceded in death by one son, Kelly one sister Mary Alice Curtis and one brother, Udell. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Overton 2nd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, July 19, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Logandale Cemetery.
